The Philadelphia Flyers have officially added Rocky Thompson as an assistant coach according to the organ-I-zations press release. The move was first reported on July 14 by SportsNet Canada’s Elliotte Friedman. Thompson and assistant coach Brad Shaw will join John Tortorella behind the bench.
The 44-year old Thompson comes to the Flyers with seven-years of professional (AHL, NHL) coaching experience with the Oilers organization and the Chicago Wolves. Thompson spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant with the San Jose Sharks. He did not coach in 2021-22 due to NHL’s COVID-19 protocols.
During his time with San Jose, Thompson was reportedly involved in an altercation with divisive star Evander Kane.Â
