The PhiladelphiaFlyers and forward ZackMacEwen agreed to a contract on Tuesday according to the organ-I-zation. The contract is a one-year deal with an average annual value (AAV) of $925,000. per the official release.
MacEwen had originally filed for salary arbitration.
The Philadelphia Flyers announced the re-signing of restricted free agent Owen Tippett. The two-year deal is worth an average annual value (AAV) of $1.5 million.Tippett was acquired by the Flyers on March 19 from Florida as part of the Claude Giroux trade.
The 23-year old recorded seven points (4G, 3A), averaged just over 15-minutes of ice time a game in 21-games with the Orange and Black.
The Philadelphia Flyers have officially added Rocky Thompson as an assistant coach according to the organ-I-zations press release. The move was first reported on July 14 by SportsNet Canada’s Elliotte Friedman. Thompson and assistant coach Brad Shaw will join John Tortorella behind the bench.
The 44-year old Thompson comes to the Flyers with seven-years of professional (AHL, NHL) coaching experience with the Oilers organization and the Chicago Wolves. Thompson spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant with the San Jose Sharks. He did not coach in 2021-22 due to NHL’s COVID-19 protocols.
During his time with San Jose, Thompson was reportedly involved in an altercation with divisive star Evander Kane.
Former Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux joined The Wally and Methot Show to discuss his recent signing with his hometown Ottawa Senators. The hope of a Flyers reunion with Giroux after trading him during the 2021-22 season were quickly dashed when the 34-year old signed a 3-year deal worth an AAV of $6.5 million early in free agency with the Sens.
While most of the conversation centers around Giroux’s arrival in Ottawa, the Flyers’ longest serving captain discussed what he expects in his return to Philadelphia.

With the 5th overall pick in the NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers selected 6’3, 200 lbs center/winger Cutter Gauthier. The 18-year old played for the US National Team Developmental Program and is committed to Boston College.
