2022 MLB Trade Deadline: Phillies Trade for OF Brandon Marsh, P David Robertson

The Philadelphia Phillies confirmed a pair of trades made before the 2022 MLB trade deadline. The club acquired outfielder Brandon Marsh from the Los Angeles Angels and reliever David Robertson from the Chicago Cubs, respectively.

The Phillies sent catching prospect Logan O’Hoppe to the Angels in exchange for Marsh. Marsh has spent the past two season in the Major’s. He was the Angels number two prospect at the time of his debut. Marsh was expected to be one of the Halos’ key outfielders for the foreseeable future.

O’Hoppe was the Phillies 23rd round pick in the 2018 MLB First Year Player Draft. He developed into a nice power hitting catcher over the past two seasons. Ultimately, O’Hoppe’s route to the Major’s was blocked by JT Realmuto and his long term contract.

The Phils traded RHP Ben Brown to the Cubs in exchange for Robertson. The veteran reliever signed a 2-year deal with the Phillies in 2019 but only apprehended in seven games due to injury.

Robertson has had a career resurgence this year with the Cubs. The 37-year old is 3-0 with a 2.23 ERA, 51 Ks, and 14 saves. He gives the Phillies immediate flexibility at the back of the bullpen.
