Philly Fighter Joe “Bodybagz” Pyfer Dominates on Dana White’s Contender Series, Earns UFC Contract

Local product Joe “BodyBagz” Pyfer has had one hell of a month.

First, Pyfer, along with UFC veteran Andre Petroski, was inducted in the Art of War Cagefighting (AOW) Hall of Fame at AOW 25. He followed up his induction with a dominate performance on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Pyfer knocked out Ozzy Diaz in the second round of their middleweight bout. The TKO victory earned Pyfer the only UFC contract given out at DWCS 47.

The always brash Dana White, in a message to next week’s fighters, commented on why Pyfer was the only fighter from Tuesday’s show inked to a deal.

“Show me who you are Tuesday night. That’s the only thing I’m concerned with. …Act like Joe Pyfer. Be excited to be here. Try to knockout your opponent out. Be like Joe Pyfer and you will get into the UFC.”

For Pyfer, Tuesday’s victory was also a redemption story.

The 25-year old competed on season four of DWCS but suffered a gruesome injury in a fight against Dustin Stoltfus. Including Tuesday’s victory, “BodyBagz” is 9-2 in professional MMA, a sport he took up in 2018. In less than five-years he ‘s gone from the meatgrinder of the Philly MMA scene to the big time of the UFC.
