It’s officially official, the Big 12 is expanding. The eight remaining Big 12 members unanimously approved the invitations for BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and Central Florida. All four members would join the conference in the summer of 2023.
The move comes in response to Texas and Oklahoma’s jump to the SEC. The Big 12 acted swiftly in the additions to prevent other conference, namely The American, from extending their own invites. The additions will bring the Big 12 back to twelve teams ahead of the league’s TV renewal.
BYU has already accepted the invitation.
Cincinnati, Houston, and Central Florida are expected to let The American know that they’re planning on exiting their existing agreement.
