Two MMA legends are set to meet in the squared circle…to box each other!?!
Yup, that’s right. Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz are set to box on the undercard of the Oscar De La Hoya-Vitor Belfort Triller boxing card on September 11.
MMAFighting.com’s Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz were first with the news.
Here’s what we know so far:
The bout is expected to be fought at a 195-lb catch weight. That’s about it. If one had to guess the rules would closely mimic the set up for other fights featuring MMA fighters turned boxers.
Silva, who famously held the UFC Middleweight Championship for 2,457 days, recently defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. by a split decision. “Spider” outclassed Chavez Jr. for the entire eight round fight and should’ve gotten the unanimous nod.
Ortiz, a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall of Famer, has never boxed professionally. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” is the owner of a three-fight win streak with wins over Alberto El Patron, Chuck Liddell, and Chael Sonnen.
Welcome to 2021 folks!
