There was drama surrounding the super-middleweight unification tilt between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders and it nearly scrapped the whole thing. Saunders and his team were upset that the bout was being contested in a smaller ring and requested the ring be changed to a 22-foot squared circle.
The two teams had an exchange in the lobby of the hotel.
Bad Left Hook reported that John Ryder was called in as a potential replacement should the fight fall through. However it seems like all is well, Saunders took too his Instagram story to confirm that the fight was a go.
“Just want to say I’m pleased the issue is sorted. The ring is not a problem. Thumbs are up.”Billy Joe Saunders, @SaundersBillyJoe via Bad Left Hook
Crisis averted and fans can enjoy a REAL boxing match.
