Welcome back to “3 Up 3 Down!” In case you missed it, HERE are the three trending up from UFC Vegas 25. And now on to the three trending down.
Two years ago, Dominick Reyes fought a brilliant fight that many believed was enough to earn a victory over Jon Jones. Instead of winning the light heavyweight championship, Bruce Buffer announced Jon Jones had earned the unanimous decision victory and walked away from the division as champion. In what many viewed as a coronation as opposed to a fight, Dominick Reyes was then matched against Jan Blachowicz for the then vacant light heavyweight championship. Reyes was stifled and bullied from the get go, losing via TKO in the 2nd round. Saturday night, Reyes took on the surging Prochazka and was brutally KO’d. Crazy how someone can go from beating the GOAT in the eyes of so many, to losing two straight via brutal stoppages and finding yourself way back in the pack for the light heavyweight crown.
“The Molodvan Hulk” went on to have a decent outing against Dustin Jacoby in a fight the judges scored a split draw. Th reason he is on this list is because once again, his ceremonial weigh-in stare down antics made as much news as his fight. This time, Cutelaba was second to take the stage and when he squared up with Jacoby, he quickly grabbed the back of Jacoby’s neck (yes, Dana was there, but was unable to prevent if from occurring). In the wake of the Jeremy Stephens and Drakkar Klose incident, Cutelaba should enver have been in a position to potentially injure his competitor the day before their scheduled fight. I know it has had an effect on his opponents, but I find the shtick stupid and boring. Stick to fighting and if you can’t beat them inside the octagon, train harder!
Luke Sanders opened the night with a unanimous decision loss. You have to feel bad for the guy. In many of his UFC fights, he appears to be on his way towards victory, yet somehow, whether a lucky shot, or his gas tank failing him, he ends up losing. And, oh yeah, he used to be engaged to “the Man” Becky Lynch, and it seems he lost out on that one too! Here’s to better days ahead for Luke Sanders! Maybe one of the other Four Horsewomen will give him a chance!
